The Rebound Foundation celebrated the opening of duplexes in Springfield, MO in December of 2023! These duplexes will be part of a new Rebound Foundation program called Marda's Village.
When a victim of domestic violence leaves their abusive partner, safe and affordable housing is one of the primary barriers they will encounter for themselves and their children. Even if housing options are available, survivors still face obstacles. Many searching for housing don't qualify due to income levels, past legal issues, and credit history.
Domestic violence often leads to housing instability and homelessness for survivors and their children.
According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, "Homelessness and housing insecurity are increasingly prevalent and affect survivors’ health, safety, and well-being. Domestic violence is both a cause and a consequence of homelessness. Studies show that 57% of homeless women report domestic violence as their immediate cause of homelessness. More than 90% of homeless women have experienced severe physical or sexual abuse at some point, and 63% have been victims of domestic or sexual violence."
Marda’s Village provides affordable housing options and addresses a critical unmet need for survivors in terms of safety and stability.
Applicants are referred by partner agencies after identifying the need for housing.
