Rebounding Off The Court

Dana and Christina met on the campus of Illinois State University and began their relationship, post college, via Facebook. Many use the term “love at first sight,” but in their case it was love at first sent message. It didn’t take long for them to realize they were meant to be together, and they were married within a year of dating. Though this is the “romantical” (one of Christina’s phrases) part of the story, life was not always as such. Both Dana and Christina’s lives have been touched by domestic violence. A trend, they realized, was happening generationally within their families. In April of 2014, Dana accepted his first head coach position at Tennessee State University. In September of that same year, they welcomed their third child, a sweet baby girl, Charlie Rose. A well-protected, little girl coming after two boys, Cameron and Carson. The birth of their daughter, along with a burning passion inside both of them, to help stop the cycle of domestic violence within their own family and others, sparked what is now known as The Rebound Foundation. Since joining the TSU family, they’ve been pretty busy. Dana is the youngest Division 1 Head Coach in the country. He was named OVC coach of the year, received the Ben Jobe award for nation’s top division 1 minority coaches, and has been named the NABC district 19 coach of the year. Through all of his accolades, he is most proud of working alongside his wife to put an end to domestic violence. While Christina’s days are filled with the needs of her three children, she has gone head-first into seeing the mission of The Rebound fulfilled. She has become fully acclimated with domestic violence shelters, other non-profits, taken on speaking engagements, dinners, and events, to explain the origin of the Rebound Foundation and call the community to action. Together, they will continue to be champions, dedicated to providing an alternative to women living in abuse through their transitional homes. As Dana’s team motto states, “You abuse, You Lose.”
